The Girls on the Run program was piloted in Knox County in Spring of 2018 at Columbia Elementary School. The program, supported by United Way of Knox County Ohio, Inc and Licking/Knox Goodwill Industries, Inc., teaches elementary girls life skills and self-empowerment through conversation-based lessons and running games. It extends over 12-weeks and culminates in completion of the organization's 5K race and celebration in Columbus, Ohio.
Participants in the program are provided with a new pair of running shoes to train and race in along with other supplies and tools to run comfortably as a team. They are also provided with registration to the program's 5K race and celebration at the end of the season. While the scope of the organization includes participants in several Ohio counties, 12 girls took part in the program in Knox County in 2018.
